ATF proposes joint NFA registration for spouses

ATF proposed allowing spouses to submit a joint application to make, receive or transfer, and register an NFA firearm. If approved under the proposal, both spouses would have joint possession rights, and moving the firearm between the registered spouses would not require another transfer application. This is a proposal, not a current joint-registration option created by the notice. Comments closed July 7, 2026.
